What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances, typically made from hyaluronic acid (HA), that are injected beneath the skin to restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your body. It's what keeps your skin plump and hydrated, so it integrates beautifully with your own tissue.

As we age, we naturally lose facial volume, particularly in the cheeks, lips, and around the mouth. Dermal fillers can restore this lost volume, soften deep folds, and create subtle definition where needed. The results are immediate, though final results are seen once any swelling settles.

Sarah's Philosophy: Less is More

The goal is always to enhance, not transform. Sarah believes in subtle, natural-looking results that make you look refreshed and confident – like the best version of yourself. She'll never encourage overfilling or a "done" look. If less product achieves your goals, that's what she'll recommend.

Who is it for?

Dermal fillers are suitable for adults who want to address volume loss, enhance their natural features, or soften deep lines. They're particularly effective for:

  • Those noticing hollow or flattened cheeks
  • People wanting subtle lip enhancement or restored lip volume
  • Those with deep nasolabial folds (nose-to-mouth lines) or marionette lines
  • Anyone wanting improved chin or jawline definition

The treatment isn't suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for those with certain autoimmune conditions or active skin infections. Sarah will assess your suitability during consultation.

Areas we treat

Dermal fillers can address multiple concerns across the face. Each treatment is personalised to your facial structure and goals.

Lips

Enhance shape, add subtle volume, improve symmetry, or restore fullness lost with age. Always natural, never "overdone."

Cheeks

Restore youthful volume to flattened or hollow cheeks, lifting the midface for a refreshed appearance.

Chin

Add projection, improve profile balance, or create a more defined chin without surgery.

Jawline

Sharpen and define the jawline, reducing the appearance of jowls and creating cleaner contours.

Nasolabial Folds

Soften the deep lines that run from nose to mouth, often called "smile lines" or "laugh lines."

Marionette Lines

Address the lines running from mouth corners downward that can create a sad or tired expression.

What to expect

1

Consultation

Your journey begins with a thorough consultation where Sarah assesses your facial structure, discusses your goals, and recommends a treatment plan. She'll explain exactly what's achievable and set realistic expectations.

2

Treatment Day

The treatment takes 30-60 minutes depending on areas treated. A topical numbing cream is applied beforehand, and most fillers contain lidocaine for comfort. Sarah works methodically, checking results as she goes.

3

Results Timeline

Results are visible immediately, though you'll see the true outcome once swelling settles – usually within 1-2 weeks. Results typically last 6-18 months depending on the area and product used.

4

Lip Review

For lip treatments, a complimentary review is included at 2-4 weeks. This allows Sarah to assess your healed results and make any minor adjustments if needed, ensuring you're completely happy.

Swelling & Bruising

This is important to understand: Swelling and bruising are normal after dermal filler treatment, especially in the lips. Lips may swell significantly for 24-72 hours – sometimes looking much larger than your final result.

Bruising can occur anywhere filler is placed and may take 7-14 days to fully resolve. Sarah will discuss this thoroughly beforehand so you can plan accordingly – avoid scheduling treatment just before important events.

Aftercare

Following these guidelines will help you heal well and get the best results:

  • Apply ice packs gently to reduce swelling (20 mins on, 20 mins off)
  • Sleep elevated for the first night if possible
  • Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the treated areas
  • No strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours (can increase bruising)
  • No facials, saunas, or extreme heat for 2 weeks
  • Avoid dental work for 2 weeks after lip filler

Sarah will provide detailed written aftercare instructions and is available to answer any concerns during your healing.

Risks & safety

Hyaluronic acid fillers have an excellent safety profile, particularly because they can be dissolved if needed. Sarah is fully trained in complication management and emergency protocols.
